Boca Ciega Squeks by Clearwater

In a match-up between county powers Boca Ciega held on to defeat the Clearwater Lady Tornadoes 54-53 in an overtime victory to advance to the Regional finals.

The game was hard fought by both teams as it went back and forth through the whole game.

Clearwater’s coach Tom Shaneyfelt had a great strategy to slow down Boca Ciega’s two outstanding guards Tamara Taylor and Latavia Dempsey.  Every time the two guards received the ball a double team came.  Even with double teams coming all night Taylor and Dempsey made their mark.

Dempsey, a Florida Atlantic commit, led all scorers with 20 points and Taylor added 19 points against a tough Clearwater defense.

Clearwater’s Lashe Kirkland tried to keep her team in the game by scoring a team high 16 point with 10 of her points coming from the free throw line.

Boca Ciega who came in (27-1) showed they could win a close game after the fourth quarter end with a score of 40-40 to take the game into overtime.

In overtime Boca Ciega forced Clearwater to turn the ball over enough times to take a lead they would not relinquish. Boca Ciega will now face Tampa Sickles at home for the Regional Final Saturday night at 7pm.
