Boys Basketball 8A Round Up

The 8A classification is up for grabs with the winner from last year Winter Park still alive after defeating Treasure Coast in the first round of the playoffs.  


Deerfield Beach is still alive after they escaped on Thursday barely defeating Douglas in overtime 59-56. 

The second round will match-up some of the best team in the state.  Defending champs Winter Park will try to make it three for three when they play Orlando . Oak Ridge has a McDonald All American in Antonio Blakeney a LSU commit who is trying to get a State Championship ring before he leaves for college. 

Tampa Wharton will be in a dog fight when it meets St Petersburg high who has a sensational sophomore in Darius Banks.  St Petersburg has a young team but is very talented and looking to make it to Lakeland.

After beating Pembroke Pines Flanagan in the first round, Miami Beach, led by big man Zack Brown must play against a solid team in Hollywood McArthur in the second round. 

The surprise team of the classification is Orlando Dr Phillips.  After starting the season 2-7, the Panthers has truly turned there season around.  With the upset victory over last year runners up Orlando Evans, the Panthers has assured itself of another 20 win season and is the hottest team in the 8A field.  Next up for Dr. Phillips is the Boone Braves who defeated the Panthers for the district.

Oviedo Hagerty who always has is eyes on a state title will face Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley in the second round. And the other two second round match-ups are good ones with South Miami playing Miami Columbus and Wellington plays Jupiter.
