In the first game of the year, Central Florida had a match-up between two teams expected to make a playoff run in 8A in Orlando Dr. Phillips and Orlando Boone.  The two teams contrast as one was a senior laden team in Boone, and Dr. Phillips was led by underclassmen.

The game started off slow for the Braves as they tried to figure out the Panther defense scoring only four points in the first quarter trailing eight to four.

The second quarter, the Braves went on the offensive outscoring the Panthers 13-6 including a 6-0 run to start the quarter to take a 17-14 halftime lead.

"We started slow as we were trying to see the format of their offense and how we could adjust to them defensively.   Once we figured that out it help us to play our game."  Boone Coach Williams said.

The third quarter saw the Braves take complete control of the game outscoring Dr. Phillips 15-9 to take a 32-23 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Panthers guard Tiffany Tolbert, who was playing in her first game back after sitting out a year, tried to keep Dr. Phillips in the game scoring seven of her game high 19 points in the quarter.

Dr. Phillips manage to get the game within five points with three minutes remaining but could not get any closer as the Braves was able to hold on for a 43-33 victory.

Both teams now have huge tests as the Braves play against Sanford Seminole and Dr. Phillips plays against Ocoee.
