Archbishop McCarthy High School 41

Miami, Florida. – Sophomore Angel Rodriguez scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Michael Krop boy’s basketball team to a 65-41 victory over Archbishop McCarthy in the tip-offs opener Thursday night at Miami Northwestern High School. The Lighting also received 10 points from Joseph Thomas and 9 points from senior John Kirkpatrick to move to 1-0 on the classic.

Dr. Krop jumped out to a quick 30-18 half—time advantage after 14 point effort from Angel Rodriguez and two deep three pointers from senior Alex Long.  The Lightings lead would eventually swell to 44-30 after a solid third quarter effort from Eddie Ramos (Krop) with a layup and a triple.  Soon thereafter, Krop enjoyed its biggest cushion of the game 65-41.

Both teams return to the court this Saturday when all eight (8) participating teams will compete in the Change the Game! South Florida Tip-off Classic for Leukemia at Miami Northwestern High School.  Krop will square off against Pine Crest on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 6:30pm, while Archbishop McCarthy battles Piper High School at 3:30p.m.

Sagemont 50
Monsignor Pace High School 59

The Sagemont Lion’s boys basketball team put a scare into the Monsignor Pace Spartans Thursday night, but ultimately lost a 59-50 decision at the Miami Northwestern Gym.

Pace’s Rakeem Buckles led all scorers with 25 points on 11-of-16 shooting. He was 3-of-4 at the line. Sophomore Cody Mann added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Spartans.

Sophomore sensation Roderick Days Jr. was 8-of-14 from the field for 21 points to lead the Lions. Vinny Delucia and Matt Johnson both also finish with 11 points, while Dylan Flynn scored 6 points.

Sagemont outscored Pace in the fourth quarter, but the strong play of Rakeem Buckles contributing 6 points in the fourth and Darren Stewart with 5 points provided to be too much for the Lion’s to overcome in the end.

Sagemont will face Coral Reef High School on Saturday at 5pm and Monsignor Pace will play South Miami High School at 8p.m.
