Orlando Dr. Phillips junior Justyn Watkins loves playing against Orlando Olympia. In the two previous games this year, he has led the Panthers in scoring and to two wins over the Titans. Last night was a different night, but ended in the same result as Watkins had 25 points to lead Dr. Phillips to an 81-59 victory over Olympia and sent Dr. Phillips back to the state final four for the first time since 1998.

“It’s a matter of pride when we play against them.” Watkins said. “We knew they had eliminated us from the playoffs last year and I never forgot that. Tonight I just wanted to come out and prove that we were the best team in Orange County.”

Olympia took a 21-16 lead into the second quarter thanks in part to sophomore guard Dexter Fields who scored ten points in the first quarter and finished with 24 for the game.

Dr. Phillips took over the game in the second quarter when they went on a 12-0 run to take the lead and never looked back.

“I am really excited for my players to get a chance to go to the Lakeland Center and experience the feeling of playing at state. We worked really hard and it’s going to be a great opportunity for us and our seniors.” Coach Anthony Long said.

Panthers guard Chris Warren finished with 20 points and junior forward Ray Willis added 22 points for Dr. Phillips in the victory.
