End of Summer Slam Review

Aug 12, 2024

This past weekend was the last official day of summer for most kids in the state of Florida.  Which meant one more time to play basketball before the school year begins.

The tournament was presented by 3thehardway and featured some of the up and coming talents in the Central Florida area.  The following is a breakdown of some of the best teams in the different divisions.

16 U

Top two teams were Kissimmee All-Stars and CFSquad.  Both teams went undefeated in the tournament and met in the championship game.  In the game, CF Squad showed their superiority as they trampled Kissimmee All- Stars forcing a mercy rule to end the game to win the 16 U division.

15 U

The top two teams in this division featured Narrow Gate and Majic Dorsey Elite 15U.  While both teams came into the championship game undefeated, this game was also a mismatch as Narrow Gate jumped out to an early 15 point lead within the first 10 minutes of the game and never looked back en-route to a mercy rule 30 point victory.  While the score was lopsided, both teams had several impressive talents that should make some noise as they enter high school.

The game of the tournament was the 12 U championship game between the Kissimmee All-Stars and the Jayhawks.

This was the last game of the entire tournament and it was worth the wait.  Again the game matched up to undefeated teams battling for the championship.

The game looked as if it was going to be another mercy rule game as Kissimmee All-Stars jumped out to an early 15 point lead in the first 8 minutes of the first half.   After a second time out, the Jayhawks was able to regroup and slowly cut the lead down as they trailed 24-16 at the half.

At the beginning of the second half, the Jayhawks started to impose their will on the game with a 14-4 run to start the half to take the lead30-28.  The game stayed tight throughout the second half with both teams having a chance to win the game with the score tied at 38 with less than 10 seconds to go in the game.  But nerves took over as both teams turned the ball over and never was able to put up a shot sending the game to overtime.

The overtime format featured TBT style OT as there were no time but a target score of 44 to win the game.  In overtime, Kissimmee All Stars jumped out on a 5-0 run to push the score to 43-38.  The Jayhawks were able to hit a free throw but game and championship belong to the Kissimmee All-Stars as they scored on a layup caused by a turnover to win the game.

What a way to end the summer with a very good game featuring  2 of the best 12U teams in the Central Florida area..  We look forward to seeing all of the kids in the future.
