Lakeland Runs Through Venice

Sep 6, 2010

By: Todd Jenkins

Lakeland had its running game back in business Friday night as they were able to run all over the Indians in a 27-14 victory to start the season.

Lakeland started a little slow by going into the half with a 14-7 lead at the half. Venice came out with the opening drive by scoring and tying the game at 14-14. Lakeland then started using its weapons in Steward Butler and Javares McRoy.  McRoy, a Florida commit, had a TD reception in the game showing he is still a big time player and a huge part of the Dreadnaughts offense.

The Dreadnaughts rushed for over 300 yards and it started with Steward Butler.  Butler finished the game with 238 yards on 23 carries including a 78 yard touchdown run to put the Indians away for good.

The run started up the middle but he cut to the Venice sideline and he looked like he was shot out of a cannon and you could almost see the Venice sideline say wow this kid is fast. With that score the game finished with a score of 27-14 win for Lakeland. Next week Lakeland plays a tough opponent in Winter Haven.
