Miami Calusa Prep’s own Denis Clemente continues to rack up the postseason accolades following his junior year when he averaged a state of Florida best 33 points per game.

The 1st Team All-Dade and Class 1A 1st Team All-State guard followed those honors by being named Class 1A Player of the Year for the state of Florida.

He can now add 1st Team All-American to that list of honors, as Clemente was the only junior named to the All-American team that was awarded to him by the National Christian Schools Athletics Association.

Joining him of the team were National Player of the Year Dwight Howard out of Southwest Atlanta Christian, Roy Bright from Mount Zion Academy in North Carolina, Randolph Morris from Landmark Christian in Georgia, and Juan Palacios from Our Savior New American in New York.

Keeping company with players like Howard and Morris who were also McDonald’s All-Americans shows that Clemente is among the nation’s elite.

As a junior, Clemente not only led the state in scoring, but he was also the top scorer in the nation among Christian schools. He was also tops in the nation in steals among the Christian schools and fifth in free throws made.

Born in Puerto Rico and living there until last summer, the lightning-quick Clemente made his way onto the stage last summer as a member of the Tropics.

Given the opportunity to succeed in the states by Tropics coach Art “Pilin” Alvarez, he surely didn’t disappoint.

After his summer with the Tropics, he exploded onto the scene at Calusa Prep with huge scoring performances, including a 45-point output against Jacksonville Arlington Country Day.

The multi-talented Clemente put Calusa Prep on the map as he led them to the Regional Finals and a school best 24-5 record.

He is being recruited by a number of schools including Arkansas, Florida State, Miami, Florida, Kentucky, Louisville and more.

With another year left in high school, there is no doubt Clemente will provide more highlight reel games for coaches, scouts and fans.
