Week one is over and in the books. With many of our teams playing out of state competition, the state of
Mixed Results for
Four of the top 10 teams in the state had a chance to play against some of the top teams from across the nation.
First and foremost let me make this clear. Palm Beach Dwyer was simply cheated out of their game against Cleveland Glenville. Not only did Dwyer get in the end zone once during the final minutes of the game, but they got in the end zone three times with the officials blowing the calls each time. In a game in which Dwyer dominated from beginning to end, a few miscues on special teams and the horrible job of the officials led to their 26-22 defeat.
Special teams doom Miami Central. The Rockets went to
Cocoa made a case for one of the best teams in the nation after defeating Pennsylvania Thomas Jefferson 43-7. The victory marked the Tigers second consecutive victory over an out of state power. They defeated Mississippi Olive Branch last week.
Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas went to
Bradenton Manatee followed up an impressive victory over Tampa Plant by going to
Statement Games
While Miami Northwestern struggled in their pre-season game against Miami Norland, they left no doubt in their season opener defeating Miami Carol City 40-18 behind senior quarterback Teddy Bridgewater who threw five touchdown passes.
Miami
Orlando Dr. Phillips is seriously looking like a championship contender after defeating Orlando Edgewater 48-7 to open the season.
Rebound Games
Tampa Plant still isn’t hitting on all cylinders, but they rebounded from last week’s embarrassing lost to defeat Tampa Bay Tech 10-0.
Lakeland Kathleen continues to struggle as they lost their opening game to Tampa Jesuit 14-7.
Lakeland showed their strength up front as they rushed for over 300 yards in a 27-14 victory over
Pahokee rebounded after last weeks lost to Jupiter Christian with a 12 -7 victory over Delray Beach Atlantic.

Player of the Week
Palm Beach Dwyer Nick O’Leary. O’Leary was the best player on the field in a match-up between national powers. The senior caught 9 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown.
