Patty cake, Patty cake Baker's The Man

Two of the best running backs in Northeast Florida squared off in a grudge match between city powers Thursday night.

Troy Pollard of Andrew Jackson High has been bothered by turf toe, a injury that has kept him from seeing action most of this season. He returned last week and lead the Tigers to a win having rushed for over 129 yards and two touchdowns. However, Ed White's Eric "Touchdown Maker" Baker leads the area in rushing and comes off a 153 rushing yards performance, in which he broke runs of 41 & 31 yards at a time and two touchdowns before leaving at the half with a knee injury last week.

In the battle between two of the top backs in Jacksonville, Eric Baker certainly won the match-up as Baker rushed for 240 yards and three touchdowns leading Ed White to a 20-6 victory over a physical Andrew Jackson team that just couldn't get anything going.

The game was one of the more physical games of the year. Jacksonville Ed White led, by their big center Mike Hughes used a brutal ground game to wear down Jackson's defense. Eric Baker got stronger as the game wore on into the fourth quarter carrying the ball twenty-nine times for over 200 yards and three touchdowns. The Commanders also did a good job of mixing more passes with the run. It kept Jackson's defense off balance all night long.

As for Troy Pollard, he could only manage 90 yards rushing on 13 carries against a well-coached commander defense, and still looks as if he's only eighty percent.

Tigers defensive lineman DeAngelo Mccray, tried to keep the Tigers close by catching the only touchdown of the night from his tight end position, a 15-yard pass from senior quarterback Allan McClainin the third quarter to make the score 14-6. Then after a turnover by the Tigers, it was Eric Baker with his third score a 25 yard touchdown run to seal the win 20-6.

“Last year when I played against Jackson, I didn't play as well as I should've and I wanted to make sure things would be different this year.” said Baker. "I'm a little sore, but that’s what the off season work is for and by me being in shape I can carry my team if
they need me to. We beat a very good Jackson team tonight and hopefully we can continue our success with the rest of the season.”
