Tigers Crush the Vikings

Nov 8, 2008

Friday night, the Andrew Jackson Tigers faced a district foe that knew their style of play very well in Jacksonville Raines. The Vikings were coming off of a heartbreak district loss to Bishop Kenny last week and came into the game hoping to put a blemish on the Tigers perfect record at their house on senior night.  However the Tigers wasn’t in a giving mood as they beat the Vikings 27-0.

Raines seem to be in control early as but was not able to capitalize on their early emotions as they had three drives end inside of Jackson’s 20 yard line.

However, the Tigers got it together hitting the Vikings with one big play after another. The scoring frenzy started when Tigers senior quarterback Nigel Mitchell to Derrick Owens with a 52 yard bomb to set up a touchdown run by senior running back Chris Campbell.  After a three and out by Raines, Tigers junior, Marquel Wade broke tackles on a 30 yard punt return to set up the Tigers once again. Then it was senior running back Darious McCray on a 35-yard gallop out racing the Vikings to the end zone to end the half 14-0.

On the Tigers opening drive, the offense, defense, and special teams would jell together and knockout the Vikings. Once again, it was McCray on a 62-yard romp past the Vikings defense with a convoy escorting him down the sideline blowing the game wide open 20-0.

The Tigers young defensive back sophomore Karnard Mahone was not to be out done by his comrades as he took a Raines punt back for a 70-yard touchdown that was called back on by an illegal block.

That wouldn't deter the (9-0) Tigers for going for the throat as their talented junior defensive back Derrick Owens(who came in the game with six interceptions on the year) made a one handed circus interception to give the Tigers the ball back on their final scoring drive capped of by McCray.

Jackson has a tough non district match up next week as they prepare for a feisty Robert E. Lee team who is also on their way to the playoffs.
