Battle for Number One

The battle for the number one spot in the state of Florida was already tight with players such as Dwayne Bacon, Antonio Blakeley, and Alex Owens getting the early nod as the leading candidates for the class.

The battle heated up this year when Australian born Ben Simmons transferred into Montverde Academy and help the Eagles win the National Championship.

While all are worthy of being top in the class, the honor goes to Ben Simmons.

At 6’8 Simmons is a versatile Forward who can beat you inside and out.  He is long and athletic and can finished with both hands at the rim.  He is widely considered as not only the top player in Florida but as one of the top 10 players in the nation.

6’6 guard Dwayne Bacon is the best scorer in the 2015 class.  Bacon can beat defenders off the bounce and his ability to knock down the long range jump shot makes him virtually unguardable at his size.

Orlando Oak Ridge Guard Antonio Blakeley has seen his stock rise more than any other player in the class.  Blakeley had a breakout summer showcasing his ability as a pure shooter and is most dangerous out in transition.

Alex Owens checks in as the first pure post player in the rankings.  Owens is the best rebounder in the class.  He can score with his back to the basket, but his ability to get to the glass and score on offensive rebounds make him dangerous.

Sagemont Adam “Prince” Ali is pound for pound one of the toughest players in the class.  He plays in attack mode putting constant pressure on the defense.  Has great athleticism and is a great rebounder for a guard.

All Pembroke Pines Guard Hannif Cheatham does is just fill the stat sheets up.  At 6’5 he can score anywhere on the floor, sees the court very well and will go inside with the big boys to get rebounds.

6’1 guard Corey Saunders is by far the most electrifying player in the 2015 class.  Saunders is a high flying guard who is a highlight film in the making.  He is dangerous around the rim and very explosive with the ball in his hands.

The knock on Winter Haven’s combo guard Chance McSpadden use to be that he is just a jump shooter.  After a summer in which he got bigger stronger and more aggressive in going to the basket, McSpadden has proven that he is a more all around player.

Just Missing the Cut

The most difficult part of ranking this class is stopping at the five star rating.  Many players are on the verge of five star status.

Orlando Freedom Wing Jonathan Laurent is also a player who has turned heads this summer.  He is great in transition and is a great finisher.  He rebounds great for his position and makes great decisions with the ball in his hands.

Largo Forward Donovan Hale was not an household name at the beginning of the summer, but with performances against the best some of the best competition in the country, Hale has proven to be one of the best in his class.

Kevarrius Hayes had a breakout summer playing with NTF 16U.  The anchor of the defense is a big athletic kid at 6'9 who runs the floor very well and alters shots at the basket.

Players to Watch

6'6 Forward Jaylin Stewart from Tallahassee Godby also benefited from a good summer.  He is an explosive finisher around the basket who is improving his jump shot.

Jonathan Jean and Jose Morales may be the best two floor generals in the class of 2015.  Both pushes the pace putting pressure on opposing teams defenses and can score when needed.
