The End of an Era

Mar 5, 2010 | Talking Sports with Robert

About two years ago I wrote on a blog about a Golden Era of Boys Basketball talking about some of the top talent in the state has.  In that blog we mention many players including former Gator Basketball player Nick Calathes, current Gator players Kenny Boynton, and Chandler Parsons.

I also spoke of a rising Sophomore who had just lost in the Final Four to Gainesville P.K. Yonge and seemed to have the potential to be a very good player.  That player was Brandon Knight

Fast forward two years and Knight has risen from one of the best players in his era to one of the best players to ever play basketball in the state of Florida.

Knight accolades ranks amongst the best players.  National Gatorade Player of the Year (An award he won his junior year.  Joining Greg Oden and Lebron James as the only Juniors to ever accomplish the feat.)

Knight was chosen as a McDonald's All-American.  He is a three time County Player of the Year with his fourth one just a formality.  He has led his school to two state championships and four final fours.  He was named Mr. Basketball for the State of Florida as well as a finalist for an ESPY.

For his senior year, Knight led Pine Crest to a 25-5 record averaging 32.5 points a game with 8.6 rebounds.

Today, Knight playing with an injured groin, played his last high school basketball game for Pine Crest scoring a modest 18 points fouling out of the game with less than two minutes to play.

Knight offered no excuses.  When asked what percentage he was health wise, he said "I was on the court so I was 100 percent.

Knight now starts to prepare for the next level in his career.  He states his goal is to win a national championship.

In revisiting the Blog of the Golden Era of Basketball, I felt that only time would tell how Knight would be judged and that he had the potential to be a top three player of all time.

Well If I am doing the judging, Knight has passed all the test and graduated top of his class.
