With the start of the Girls Basketball Season less than two weeks away, Florida Prospects will start to interview several of the top prospects for the basketball season. Today we showcase top junior prospect Shamar Harris of Palm Beach Dwyer to discuss her goals for the upcoming season.

With consecutive playoff appearances and another strong team this year, Clay High School looks to remain a power in North Florida. With numerous state titles and a number of athletes getting recruited each year, Bolles has become the model program in the state. Last year the Lake Mary Rams Girls Basketball team was expected to go through a tough year. With a team relying on three freshman and two juniors, the Rams was sure to go through a tough learning season to better prepare them for the following years.

Even though Auburndale guard Brandon Giles attends the same high school Houston Rockets guard Tracy McGrady once did, Giles is similar to a Prince. Many compare Giles to Tayshaun Prince of the Detroit Pistons because of his size and athleticism. He is a silky smooth player who is very versatile with a soft mid- range jump shot.

One of the fastest rising juniors in the state is Titusville Forward Adam Grimm. Standing at 6'7, he's one of the most athletic post players in the state. Tommie Butts sat down to talk with Adam about his past year and what the future holds for him.

Several teams lost many top players last year. While those players will be missed, those teams still have more than a fighting chance to win state as they return exceptional players for upcoming year. Here are five teams who will continue to succeed during the 2005-2006 season

After falling short of winning the 4A title in 2003, Winter Haven Blue Devils left no doubt as to who was the best team in the state last year beating previously undefeated Gainesville Eastside 56-23 to win the state title. It was the first title for Winter Haven and was head coach LeDawn Gibson first title after being the runner up three times in the last four years. With the first title out of the way, Winter Haven now focuses on the new upcoming season where there is only one goal. Win another state title.

St. Augustine Nease Wide Receiver Ryan Ellis followed the how to get recruited guidebook. To get recruited on a national level is simple. Put up big astonishing numbers for the world to talk about during your junior year and continue to do produce during your senior year. Play for one of the top rated teams in the state and become a key member of that team. Surely if you do all of that, colleges will be knocking down your door just to get an opportunity to sign you.

Calvin Liptrot wants to set the record straight. The soft spoken guard from Orlando Jones High School feels that he is often Misunderstood. He hears that he doesn’t play hard at all times. He hears that he lacks the killer instincts on the court. What he wants the public to know is that he just wants to play basketball and help his team win a championship.

What an exciting week of football we have for week six. Many of the top 25 teams will be playing against each other vying for state supremacy. Here are the rankings for the week.

When you start looking for some of the best lineman in the nation, most colleges start looking in the state of Florida. The state is usually blessed with lineman who has the perfect mixture of speed and power. This year is no different, as there are plenty of linemen throughout the state who will play Division One football. One lineman who has started to get notice as a special athlete is Jacksonville’s Wolfson defensive end Rodney Gnat.

On a routine basis, the state of Florida always seems to put out the best defensive backs in the nation. This year is no exception as the state is once again loaded at the position. Over the last five years, the city of Jacksonville has produced some of the best basketball talent in the state. From Jacksonville Raines trio of Derwin Kitchen, Juwann James, and London Warren, to Andrew Jackson’s Danny Bell and Jamon Gordon, the city has had a wealth of talent. This year is no different. With talented players around the city, Jacksonville is in for a very good year of Boys High School basketball. One player who looks to continue the recent success of Jacksonville Players is Jacksonville Bishop Kenny star Guard Brendan Walker.

If timing is everything, then the South Florida Bulls' coaching staff has it. The University of South Florida came out a winner when Dante Curry, 6’5” guard from Poinciana High School verbally committed to become a Bull next season during the summer AAU season. The future Bull has the ability to change the pace of a game by playing solid defense and scoring quickly. He is described as being a savvy, smooth, athletic guard with the most consistent shot in the state.

Jacksonville Sandalwood star athlete Jamar Hornsby wants everyone to know that he may be down, but he's no where near out of the game. Hornsby, rated number 2 in the Florida Prospects top 100 for 2006 started the season at running back, in an unselfish move to help his team generate some offense.

Last year Nease guard Zack Paterick was wondering if he would ever play basketball for a Division one school. He had just transferred to a different school and was out the majority of the season with an illness. Paterick work hard in the summer and kept his grades up and now has some great news to tell the rest of the state. Florida Prospects sat down with Zack to hear his news and to talk about his expectations for the year.

Over the past five years, Jacksonville Raines has had one of the best defenses in the state. Last year the Vikings defense was so dominant that they lost their second head coach to join a staff at another school as a defensive coordinator. Every one in the state knows about star safety Donsay Hardeman, but it’s another Viking who is started to get attention.
