Battle of the Best AAU Tournament Recap

As we approach the conclusion of a fantastic AAU season, In the Zone Magazine, organized a tournament for the South Florida area known as the Battle of the Best. This tournament featured numerous of Florida Prospects’ Top 50 players in the state. There were 10 teams entering this astonishing event, but only one can claim to be the best. The Best of the Best were the Miami Tropics, edging out the Florida Prospects’ Ballas, 95-85 in the championship game.

Over the last three years, Jacksonville Sandalwood has seen resurgence in its football program. During this span, the Saints have gone from a middle of the road team to one of the better teams in the city of Jacksonville. While the Saints lost All Florida Prospects Running Back Maurice Wells (Ohio State) and All State Linebacker Marvin Sapp (South Carolina) to graduation, they return a solid nucleus that is ready to make a run for a state title. Leading the charge for the Saints this year will be super athlete Jamar Hornsby.

With the majority of their team returning, Washington is the favorite to win the title this year. Jacksonville Andrew Jackson Athlete Continues the Tigers Winning Tradition

Over the last five years, Jacksonville Andrew Jackson High school has quietly produced some of the better football prospects in the state. Over that span of time, the Tigers has produced players such as: Leon Washington (FSU), Tripp Carroll (Virginia Tech), Danny Bell, (Ole Miss), George Stripling (Louisville) and Michael Hicks (Ole Miss). This year, the Tigers are loaded again with a number of prospects that will be recruited to play college football. Leading the way will be WR Jamal Harvey.

North Florida Guard Proving He’s one of the Best In the Nation

Last year Jacksonville Arlington Country Day easily dismantled every school in the state in route to winning the class 2A state championship team. That team featured top 2005 players like David Huertas (Florida), Sammy Hernandez (George Mason) and Brian Hoff. It’s no surprise that the class 2A player came from the school. What may surprise some is that it wasn’t Huertas, Hernandez or Hoff, but it was junior guard Josue Soto taking home the honor as the best player in Class 2A.

The 2007 Boys Basketball class is shaping up to be one of the best recruiting classes the state has had in the last 10 years. The class already has three players committed to play major Division One college basketball and is loaded with players who will not only play on the collegiate level, but on the professional level as well.
