The first ten years of the new cenutury has produced some of the greatest players in Florida Football History. Today we start our debate to who have been the greatest at their position in this decade. The All Decade Wide Receivers will consists of Four Wide Receivers. Voting will close on May 25.

Over the next couple of months Florida Prospects will begin to showcase some of the top players that helped to make the state so dominate during the decade with the release of our Florida Prospects All Decade “High School” Team, with an emphasis on their high School Career.

It’s the off season and here at Florida Prospects we are combing the state looking for 2011’s High School Phenoms. As usual, the state has many top recruits that will be highly sought after by many colleges throughout the country. Players like James Wilder Jr. of Tampa Plant, Tim Jernigan of Lake City Columbia, Andra Davis of Jefferson High, Teddy Bridgewater of Miami Northwestern, and Laquentin Smith of Dr. Phillips, is just a few players who will garner national attention as the best in their position. Having said that we are now in the process of identifying players throughout the state that have the skill sets to improve their already high stock value amongst scouts over the next year. About two years ago I wrote on a blog about a Golden Era of Boys Basketball talking about some of the top talent in the state has. In that blog we mention many players including former Gator Basketball player Nick Calathes, current Gator players Kenny Boynton, and Chandler Parsons.

Built as the most anticipated finals match-up in the championship brackets, the Jacksonville Arlington Country Day Apaches played against the Orlando Christian Prep Warriors for the1A state championship. With seven state championships between the two teams over the past seven years, the Orlando Christian Prep Warriors were able to hold off a late charge by ACD to win the 1A state title.

At the end of the 2009 basketball season, the South Broward Bulldogs were in prime position to be one of the best teams if not the best team in the state of Florida. They had their entire team returning and were poised to make a state title run.

Saturday night’s game between St. Petersburg Lakewood and Ft. Myers Green Wave was built as the top match-up in the Tampa Bay Area. With both teams vying for a spot in the state’s final four, the game lived up to its billing.

It wasn’t pretty or the type of game Miami Norland Lady Vikings is accustomed to playing but at the end of the day the Lady Vikings got the same result, a victory and another state championship defeating Pensacola 43-38 in overtime for the 4A state championship.

The Boca Ciega Lady Pirates jumped out to an early 9-0 lead against the Dillard Lady Panthers in the 5A title game causing the Panthers to call a time-out. After the time-out the Panthers woke up led by senior Dawn Maye as they defeated the Lady Pirates 53-44 to win the 5A state championship.

The Rock Lions came into the class 1A state final looking to win the first state Girls Basketball Title in the Gainesville area since 1997. The Lions had to wait until the final second of the game to accomplish their goal defeating the Hollywood Christian Eagles 51-48.

Today marked the first day of the Girls Basketball state championships in Lakeland. Here is a recap of the first day.

FEBRUARY is defined as a month of heartaches, tears, drained emotions, and uncompleted tasks. Additionally, it’s a month of joy, relief, cheerfulness, and high spirits. Each team competing in the State Finals, will have an opportunity to define it’s own FEBRUARY, this week.
