When you play football at Pompano Beach Ely you are expected to be one of the best in the state at your position. The school is rich in history and boasts great players such as: Corey Simon, Zack Crockett, Henri Crockett, Jerome McDougle, Al Harris and Tyrone Moss. This year running back Devan James will be looking to add his name to list of great Ely players.

After playing football for Jacksonville Raines during his sophomore year, West Boca Raton defensive lineman DeMario Jones moved down south and faced a new challenge of playing for a first year high school. Not only did Jones face the new challenge, he passed it flying colors.

The Best is Yet to Come

If you have not seen Taravella High Basketball star Damian Hollis play, then you would not know he is an identical comparison to Detroit Pistons Forward Tayshaun Prince. Hollis, a 6’8” junior swingman, is a very versatile player, who can play on the inside or the perimeter. However, what makes his game so effective is his ability to move without the ball and shooting effortlessly from the outside.

Is He Florida’s Best?

From the day Winter Park’s star guard Jeremiah Rivers picked up a basketball he was expected to be great. Growing up the son former NBA player and current NBA coach Doc Rivers, many fans immediately expected Rivers to be one of the best in the state. Over the past two years, Rivers play has shown that not only has he lived up to the expectations, but has exceed them as well.

On Saturday April 23, 2005, athletes from across the state gathered in Gainesville to participate in the second annual MSL Combines. On a cold a rainy day, the athletes in the state proved once again why Florida is considered the best state for football. Here are some observations from the camp.

Another Morgan is Ready for Recruiting Season

Over the past couple of years, Riviera Beach Suncoast Athlete Deandre Morgan has seen the recruiting process up close and personal. With older brother Dajuan Morgan committing to Ohio State and later signing with North Carolina State, the younger Morgan is well prepared for the upcoming recruiting season.
Rose Proves He's One of the Best In the State

On Sunday April 10, athletes from around the state gathered at the University of Miami for the first Nike camp. The camp brings some of the premier players of the state and evaluates them based on speed, power and agility. The highlight of the event is when the players battle against each other in individual skills. This event usually separates the good players from the great players. One player who established himself as one of the best players at his position is Tampa Jefferson offensive lineman Deron Rose.
Panhandle Guard Has Some Good News

Each year, some of the top players in the state come from the panhandle area. The problem is that many of the players are often overlooked unless they are play for a top contending school in the state. While the panhandle had somewhat of a down year for high school basketball this year, the quality of players did not decrease. One player from the area who recently committed to a Division One school is Fort Walton Beach Choctaw Jamal Herriott.

With kids playing AAU ball throughout the nation, many of Florida kids who would never get noticed are starting to receive scholarship offers to many Division One schools.
