Q & A with Tremayne Russell
Jun 6, 2005
Name: Tremayne Russell
Height: 6’0”
Position: Guard
School: South Dade High School
FPStaff: What qualities do you bring to your team Tremayne?
Trussell: I am very quick and have very good ball handling skills. Sometimes I feel as if no one can guard me. I make good decisions on the court.
FPStaff: What were your personal stats from last year? And what was the final outcome for South Dade last year?
Trussell: I averaged 18 points, 3.5 steals, 6 assists and 5 rebounds per game as a junior. We were 16-7 last year. However, we will improve my senior season.
FPStaff: Which game or games were you most proud of?
Trussell: The Miami Springs game. We came back from being down 20 points at the half to win the game and the South Miami game.
FPStaff: Why are those games in particular so important to you?
Trussell: In the Miami Springs game, I forced a lot of turnovers and I came up with a lot of steals. And my aggressiveness on the offensive end puts most of their (Miami Springs’) players in foul trouble. This kept my team in the game and I made clutch free throws down the stretch to win the game.
FPStaff: If one of your teammates were asked to describe Tremayne Russell, what would he say?
Trussell: Simple, he is very confident.
FPStaff: Describe your playing style?
Trussell: I love to run the offense, but when the offense breakdown, without hesitation, I immediately attack the defense by driving to the hole looking to score.
FPStaff: Simple as that?
Trussell: yes
FPStaff: How does the future look for South Dade basketball team?
Trussell: Hopefully, this year we will make the trip to Lakeland. You never know. We have a lot of good talent and a nice freshman class coming in this year. We should be fine.
FPStaff: Growing up as a NBA fan, Tremayne Russell’s game is similar to who?
Trussell: Dwayne Wade. Both Dwayne and I have similar playing styles because we make things happen on the floor. In a pick and roll offense, I take what the defense is giving me. Scoring is the second option after I get my teammates involved. When my teammates need a basket, that is when I feel a need to score.
FPStaff: What are some of the colleges that are currently recruiting you?
Trussell: James Madison, Auburn, FAU, FIU, University of Florida and Virginia. Pretty much the majority of the Florida schools.
FPStaff: What can you improve on to make your team better?
Trussell: Playing hard for 32 minutes and not relaxing on the court. At times I tend to take breaks on the floor, keep my focus, and play through everything.
FPStaff: What impact does coach Herron have on your life?
Trussell: He taught me how to play smarter and make better decisions. Coach Herron is the reason why I have a high basketball I.Q. and great instincts while on the court.
FPStaff: Thanks for your time Tremayne and good luck with your season.
Trussell: Thank you for the interview.
