Daytona Beach Seabreeze High school came into the 2006 season with a lot of question to be answered. After going 6-4 the previous year, the Sandcrabs was supposed to go through a rebuilding year with many young players. Instead of rebuilding, Seabreeze enjoyed a successful year making it all the way to the Regional Finals. One huge reason for their success was the play of junior quarterback Troy Dannehower.

The 2008 linebackers class in the state of Florida may be the best class the state has had in recent memory. This year, the state boasts at least five linebackers who will be in the top 30 overall players and should also factor in the national rankings as well. One player who will be in the mix is Ridge Community’s star athlete Vincent Williams.

The legend of Kenny Boynton Jr. continues to grow. After playing in his first game in the state final four, Pompano Beach Ely’s sophomore star Kenny Boynton Jr. did what he says comes natural to him which is play the simple game of basketball. Fortunately for Pompano Beach Ely, he’s one of the best at it as he led the Tigers to a 70-67 win over Winter Park.

It took 46 years for Jacksonville Robert E. Lee to return to the state final four and for three and a half quarters it looked as if they would be continuing their Cinderella season as they hung tough against state power St. Petersburg Lakewood in the first semifinal game of the 5A Region. Unfortunately for the Generals, the clock struck midnight on their season as Lakewood defeated Lee 57 to 44.

After a one year layoffs from the state final four, Florida Air Academy returned and were greeted with a familiar foe in Jacksonville Ribault High School, the team in which they defeated to win the state championship two years ago.

Over the past five years, Orlando Edgewater High School has been the standard for High School football in the Central Florida area. During that span, they have produced many players who have gone on to play Division One College football. This year will be no different as the Eagles return a dominant team and will be one of the favorites to make the state championship. One player who will be key in their playoff run will be rising senior safety Leonard Smith.

Orlando Dr. Phillips junior Justyn Watkins loves playing against Orlando Olympia. In the two previous games this year, he has led the Panthers in scoring and to two wins over the Titans. Last night was a different night, but ended in the same result as Watkins had 25 points to lead Dr. Phillips to an 81-59 victory over Olympia and sent Dr. Phillips back to the state final four for the first time since 1998.

After losing in the regional finals two years in a row, the Jensen Beach Lady Falcons are one game away from winning their school’s First state championship after a 48-43 victory over Orlando Bishop Moore.

Playing linebacker in the city of Miami is not an easy feat. It seems each year that the area produces the best linebackers in the nation that go on to star in college and in the pros. Players include Marvin Jones, Nate Webster, Lamont Green, Jonathan Vilma and many others who have become legend in Dade County. Miami Northwestern’s star linebacker Sean Spence knows history of the top players from the area and is ready to add his name amongst the best.

Finish the Job! That's been Winter Haven's message from the day basketball season started. This game will be no different as they defeated Naples Barron Collier 55-44 to advance to the 5A state championship to play Clearwater.

When Parkway Academy Senior guard Taquarius Napier talk about their first two seasons as a basketball program she is quick to say that they were seasons to forget. They lost so many games she can’t count them all. That’s why it is so special for her and the rest of the Panthers to advance to the state championship game after a 63-54 victory over number one ranked Gainesville P.K. Yonge in the 3A semifinal game in Lakeland.

Florida Prospects introduces to you one of the most sought after linebackers in all of Florida. He's not only a linebacker, but a raw athlete having many skills, natural instincts, the drive and determination to make something happen at all times when he's on the field. This week’s top Rising Senior Stud is none other than "Mr. Fearless" Nigel Bradham of Wakulla High School.

Coming into the 2006 football year, Seffner Armwood running back Eric Smith expected to have a very big year. He had just enjoyed a sophomore year which saw him rushed for over 1500 yards and help to lead his team into the state championship game. Unfortunately for Smith, he dislocated his elbow in the first game of the year missed most of the season. He did return to help lead Armwood to the second round of the playoffs and after a 180 yard performance against eventual state champion Tampa Plant, he left no doubt that he will be one of the best running backs in 2008.

Each year colleges raid the state of Florida looking for “special playmakers that can help their program win games. Last year, the state had several players who had scholarship offers from every major Division One school in the nation. This year will be the same as the state boast several athletes who have college coaches anxious to get them to their school. Today, we showcase class Pompano Blanche Ely’s defensive back Patrick Johnson Jr., one very special athlete that will be one of the most sought after prospects for next year’s class of 2008.

Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley Safety Mitch McGrath is an upcoming senior that any football coach in the state would love to have. He is one of the top players in the state for the class of 2008. He’s a leader on and off the field and really takes the term “student athlete” serious as he has a 3.8 g.p.a. After talking to McGrath I was able to learn about what he thought of himself as a player.

When building a football team most coaches will tell you that you need to start with a good foundation. While the quarterback’s gets most of the spotlight, it is the offensive linemen that does all of the dirty work and keeps the offense moving. One lineman who fits the build is Winter Park junior Corey Miller .

National Signing Day is the single most important day for college football coaches throughout the country. In the state of Florida the day takes on an additional significance because of the many talented players that the state has each year.

Four years had passed since the last time Orlando Dr. Phillips beaten Orlando Edgewater. For three and a half quarters, it appeared that the Panthers would have to wait another year to attempt to defeat their cross town rivals as Edgewater seemed in control and was on track of winning their fifth game in a row in the series. That’s when Panthers senior guard Chris Warren took over the game and willed his team to an 88-82 overtime victory over the Eagles.
