Last year Jacksonville Robert E. Lee High School continued to show improvement as they finished the season 7-3 and earned a return trip to the playoffs. Unfortunately the trip ended sooner than they wanted to as they fell to Jacksonville Andrew Jackson in the first round. With key returning starters returning, the Generals are hoping to improve on last year’s performance and go deeper into the playoffs. Leading the charge for the Generals will be linebacker Alonzo McQueen.

The Boys Basketball class of 2006 has gotten off to a great start with prospects committing to play for major Division One Schools. The class already have five players committed to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference and also have players committed to play in the SEC and Big East Conference. One of the top players for the class of 2006 in the state of Florida who has committed to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference will be Shooting Guard Aaron Holmes.

One of the toughest positions on the football field is cornerback. When you play cornerback, you are often left alone on an island and are expected to shut down the individual to your side. It is really the one position on the field where you can be singled out as the hero or the goat. Of course most athletes say that they want the challenge but are never prepared. One player who prepares for and relishes the challenge of being in the spotlight is Miramar Parkway Academy cornerback Kevin Holloway.

Over the past three years, no team has faced more heartache than the Orlando Edgewater Eagles football team. During this span, the Eagles have made it to three consecutive state championship games and have lost all three. Instead of hang their heads, the Eagles just reload and prepare for the next year. Leading the Eagles this year in search of their elusive state title will be wide receiver Greg Mathews.

Two years ago, no one cared about Miami Norland basketball. The Vikings had just come off of a 10-11 season and wasn’t expected to do much better. In one year, the Vikings not only turned their program around, they established themselves as a state power going 24-5 and reaching the regional finals. One major reason for the resurgence of Norland’s basketball program was the play of All Florida Prospects Player Zachary Peacock.

When you start to evaluate some of the top teams in the state of Florida, Miami Booker T. Washington High school will be at the top of most lists. Last year, Washington finished with a 12-1 record and came within a point of playing for the 4A state crown. With the majority of their team returning, the Tornadoes are hungry and poised to win a state title. One player who will help lead the charge for a title will be defensive lineman Joseph Jackson.

Over the last three years, Jacksonville Sandalwood has seen resurgence in its football program. During this span, the Saints have gone from a middle of the road team to one of the better teams in the city of Jacksonville. While the Saints lost All Florida Prospects Running Back Maurice Wells (Ohio State) and All State Linebacker Marvin Sapp (South Carolina) to graduation, they return a solid nucleus that is ready to make a run for a state title. Leading the charge for the Saints this year will be super athlete Jamar Hornsby.

When you play linebacker in the state of Florida, you are not only competing against the top linebackers in the nation, but you are also competing against the history and tradition of the great Florida linebackers of the past. The state has been blessed with a tremendous amount of talent year end and year out and this year is no exception. One player looking to continue the great tradition of linebackers will be Labrandon Glover of Pensacola High.

Last year St. Augustine High made it to the state semi finals before losing to the eventual state champions Jacksonville Bolles in the playoffs. With the majority of its team returning, many people are picking St. Augustine High to be one of the best teams in the state. Helping the Jackets to make a run at a state title will be WR/DB Quentin Hancock .

Over the last five years, Jacksonville Andrew Jackson High school has quietly produced some of the better football prospects in the state. Over that span of time, the Tigers has produced players such as: Leon Washington (FSU), Tripp Carroll (Virginia Tech), Danny Bell, (Ole Miss), George Stripling (Louisville) and Michael Hicks (Ole Miss). This year, the Tigers are loaded again with a number of prospects that will be recruited to play college football. Leading the way will be WR Jamal Harvey.

Last year Jacksonville Arlington Country Day easily dismantled every school in the state in route to winning the class 2A state championship team. That team featured top 2005 players like David Huertas (Florida), Sammy Hernandez (George Mason) and Brian Hoff. It’s no surprise that the class 2A player came from the school. What may surprise some is that it wasn’t Huertas, Hernandez or Hoff, but it was junior guard Josue Soto taking home the honor as the best player in Class 2A.

On June 13, 2005, Florida Prospects will begin to release its Five-Star basketball players for the class of 2007 and will release our number one player in the state. Over the past decade, the state of Florida has produced some of the best defensive lineman in the nation. From College All Americans like Warren Sapp and Derrick Alexander of the 90’s, to Corey Simon and Vince Wilfork of the early 2000, the state has been a gold mine for lineman for colleges everywhere. The state hopes to continue its run of great lineman this year with many talented prospects in the state. Leading the way for the 2006 class will be Kendrick Ellis of John I. Leonard High School.

If you asked any coach in America, they will tell you that one of the most important positions on the football field is the offensive line. Every good or bad play that happens on the fields starts with the five guys up front. In Florida, we have the opportunity to see the very best lineman year in and year out. This year the state is once again loaded with top offensive lineman. This year look for Sam Young of Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, to lead the way as the state’s top lineman for the class of 2005.

The past couple of years, the state of Florida have been blessed with some of the top quarterbacks in the nation. The class of 2004 had six quarterbacks to sign to major Division One schools. This past class continued Florida’s dominance with four quarterbacks to sign to major Division One schools. This year look for the trend to continue as the state has a plethora of quarterbacks who will sign offers to play for major college schools. One player looking to earn an offer to a major college is Cody Clinton of Boca Raton High School.

When you play football at Pompano Beach Ely you are expected to be one of the best in the state at your position. The school is rich in history and boasts great players such as: Corey Simon, Zack Crockett, Henri Crockett, Jerome McDougle, Al Harris and Tyrone Moss. This year running back Devan James will be looking to add his name to list of great Ely players.

After playing football for Jacksonville Raines during his sophomore year, West Boca Raton defensive lineman DeMario Jones moved down south and faced a new challenge of playing for a first year high school. Not only did Jones face the new challenge, he passed it flying colors.

With the decision of which high school to attend settled, All Florida Prospects Top 50 Prospect Charles Deas can now concentrate on doing what he does best, dominate the game of football.

From the day Winter Park’s star guard Jeremiah Rivers picked up a basketball he was expected to be great. Growing up the son former NBA player and current NBA coach Doc Rivers, many fans immediately expected Rivers to be one of the best in the state. Over the past two years, Rivers play has shown that not only has he lived up to the expectations, but has exceed them as well.

On Saturday April 23, 2005, athletes from across the state gathered in Gainesville to participate in the second annual MSL Combines. On a cold a rainy day, the athletes in the state proved once again why Florida is considered the best state for football. Here are some observations from the camp.

Over the past couple of years, Riviera Beach Suncoast Athlete Deandre Morgan has seen the recruiting process up close and personal. With older brother Dajuan Morgan committing to Ohio State and later signing with North Carolina State, the younger Morgan is well prepared for the upcoming recruiting season.

On Sunday April 10, athletes from around the state gathered at the University of Miami for the first Nike camp. The camp brings some of the premier players of the state and evaluates them based on speed, power and agility. The highlight of the event is when the players battle against each other in individual skills. This event usually separates the good players from the great players. One player who established himself as one of the best players at his position is Tampa Jefferson offensive lineman Deron Rose.

Each year, some of the top players in the state come from the panhandle area. The problem is that many of the players are often overlooked unless they are play for a top contending school in the state. While the panhandle had somewhat of a down year for high school basketball this year, the quality of players did not decrease. One player from the area who recently committed to a Division One school is Fort Walton Beach Choctaw Jamal Herriott.
