Pine Crest senior forward Ed Waite, predicted a 15 point victory against Orlando Jones in Friday’s 3A state championship final.  He said that because of the way his team had prepared all year.  Well for once he was wrong.  They actually won by 16 as the Ft. Lauderdale Pine Crest Panthers repeated as 3A state champions with a dominating 60-44 victory over the Orlando Jones High Tigers.

"We knew they were going to pressure us and we prepared for that.  Our goal was to keep attacking the basket and play our game.  We did that today and that was the difference in the game."  Pine Crest Junior Guard Brandon Knight said.

Unlike last year’s state championship game in which Knight was a non factor, Knight made his presence known with a game high 27 points nine rebound performance in route to earning most valuable player award.

The game was close throughout the first half with Pine Crest holding a slight lead midway through the third quarter.

The Panthers went on a 10-2 run to finished the quarter culminating with a dunk by Ed Waite to finished the half.

I felt that our defense played a major role in the game.  This year, we played one of the toughest schedules in the state and it just made us battle tested for the playoffs

"Three years ago, i sat out the entire season with a knee injury.  To win back to back state championships is like a dream come true.  It shows how good of a team we are." Waite said.
