Seabreeze Shocks Mainland

The Daytona Beach Mainland Buccaneers got its first taste of what it’s like to play with a big target on their backs as they were upset in Wednesday’s night season opener 17-6 by archrival Daytona Beach Seabreeze.

Seabreeze came into the game having to start playing football A.X.L. (After Xavier Lee), their all world quarterback.

Led by new Quarterback Will Saffen, Seabreeze control the came from beginning to end in the victory.

Seabreeze scored on its second possession of the game when junior running back Ben Robinson scored from the 1-yard line. The touchdown was set up by a 30 yard run by Robinson.

Seabreeze put the game away with a 32 yard touchdown pass from Saffen to junior WR Dominic Mungen in the fourth quarter.

Mainland, who won the 5A state title game last season, never seemed to get anything going on offense all night giving up 4 sacks while only scoring one offensive touchdown, which came on a fumble in the end zone.

For the Buc’s they must forget the lost and concentrate on the rest of their season. Last year, Mainland was able to rebound from their late season lost to Chaminade to win the 5A title.

As for Seabreeze, although the coaches would still love to have Xavier in the huddle, they are finding out that life after Lee isn’t as bad as they thought.
