Friday’s night contest between St.Augustine and Jacksonville Raines featured two of the best schools in the North Florida area. With a combined record of 19-1 and both teams having excellent seasons, on paper, the game was set up to be a battle of heavyweights. Q & A Rachel WIlliams

After helping to lead Miami High to the 6A state title last year Rachel Williams transferred to 6A powerhouse Lake Mary who they defeated in the semi-finals last year. With the experience she brings she should immediately be able to help a talented Lake Mary team return to Lakeland for another state finals appearance. Florida Prospects recently had a chance to talk with Rachel to discuss girls basketball and her future plans.

The high school basketball season is around the corner, as the boys basketball teams across the state, prepare for the title in their respective classifications. Practices for boy’s basketball started Monday, October 31 and with all the hype surrounding the top schools in the state, Florida Prospects Staff created a Pre-season Boys Top 25 Countdown, regardless of class, in the state. Jacksonville Point Guard Makes His Choice

One of the top players in the state is Jacksonville Raines Point Guard London Warren. After a junior year in which he averaged over 15 points a game and help to lead Raines to the Regional Final game, Warren is set to have a stellar senior year. Recently he committed to play for Dayton University. Florida Prospects spoke with London to discuss his college choice and his expectations on the upcoming year.
North Florida Arhlete Has Three Schools in Mind

One of the top football teams in the state is St. Augustine High School. They currently have a 8-0 record and can win their district with a victory over Palatka. One of the biggest reasons for their success is running back Brandon James who has rushed for over 800 yards so far this season and scored 16 touchdowns for the year. Florida Prospects Recruiting Analyst Dennis Perdue got a chance to talk with James to ask him about his season and update his college choices.
North Florida Wide Receiver Is One of the Best in the State

North Florida Christian football team has experience a great deal of success of the past 10 years. Over that span, they have won five state championships and have had several players sign to play for major Division One Scholarships. This year is no different as North Florida Christian is again among the elite teams in the state and is one of the favorites to win the 1A state football title. One of the players responsible for the Crusaders success on the football field this year is star wide receiver Carlton Salters.
Q & A with Amber Smith

Florida Prospects talked one-on-one with Winter Haven’s star point guard, Amber Smith to discuss the different avenues Winter Haven will take towards winning another state title. As a sophomore, Smith averaged 5.5 points, 6 assists and 2 steals per game last year helping Winter Haven capture the Class 4A state championship. Winter Haven will be looking for her point guard leadership abilities to carry them for another championship run this season.

Florida Prospects talked one-on-one with Orlando Christian Prep’s basketball star, Gaati Werema, to discuss her collegiate future plans with Prairie View A&M University next year. After averaging 15 points, 15.5 rebounds per game and earning the Player of the Year Award in the central Florida area as a junior, Werema has caught the attention of everyone in the state as a player to watch.
North Florida Athlete Is One of the Best in State

After having a tremendous summer in which St. Augustine defensive back Jacques Rickerson saw his stock rise as one of the top players in the state, Rickerson was ready for a breakout season. Unfortunately an early injury sidelined him for the first three games of the season and lost most of the momentum he had achieved during the summer.

To his children he is called Dad. To his friends he is called Al. He is called coach by anyone associated with girls or boys basketball. To Florida Prospects he is called the Father of Girls Basketball for the state of Florida. Whatever you call him, please do it with respect as former Ribault High Girls Basketball Coach Al Austin has definitely earned it.

Another Sims Ready for Stardom

The Sims family name has become synonymous with college football. Starting with Ernie Sims Jr., who played football for Florida State from 1977-1981 to current Florida State star linebacker Ernie Sims III, the Sims name has become football royalty. This year the tradition continues as North Florida Christian athlete Marcus Sims is one of the top players in the nation for the class of 2006.
